NCAA Witch-hunt or a picture of long overlooked issues?

Is it just me or does it seem like now more than ever, the NCAA is staying on top of player & coach conduct? Even a few years ago the largest issues were fairly muted or more obscure (e.g., players were being overpaid by their part time jobs - which failed to be identified for nearly a full year after the infractions occurred).
